Connect2 Wiltshire services : Alternative Proposal

Show / Hide Description

Earlier last month we emailed details about our alternative option for the Connect 2 Wiltshire services developed in partnership with Pewsey Community Area Partnership.  The proposal was submitted to Wiltshire Council for consultation this month.  Due to emergency replacement contracts arising from the demise of Hatts Travel, the Public Transport Unit has had to postpone this consultation, and consequently the public meeting.

The public meeting and presentation originally scheduled for Wednesday 24 September has had to be cancelled.  It will now be held on Wednesday, 12  November at 7pm at the Corn Exchange, Devizes.   Transport has been arranged for those wishing to travel from Pewsey and villages.

There will also be a drop in event on Tuesday, 11th November from 2:30pm to 8:00pm at Bouverie Hall, Pewsey.

The C2W bus services are relevant to a great many people in the Devizes and Pewsey areas: those living or working in the villages between Devizes and Pewsey, Pewsey centre, villages between Pewsey and Burbage, those wishing to visit the countryside or access Pewsey station to/from Devizes and Pewsey.

Connect2 Wiltshire bus service consultation

Show / Hide Description

Many people complained that the Connect2 Wiltshire bus service proposals were unacceptable.  At both Pewsey and Devizes Area Boards they argued for an alternative option and an extension to the consultation that had ended on 14th May.

Devizes and Pewsey Community Partnerships succeeded in persuading Cabinet Portfolio Holder, John Thompson, to agree to extend the consultation period and engage the services of Alan James, an independent specialist in rural transport to help with the task.

The two community partnerships are appealing to those who have already commented as well as those who were not aware of this service review to join in this short reprieve.

The Group is organising an on line survey and a public meeting on Thursday 12th June at 7pm at Bouverie Hall in Pewsey.  At the meeting Mr James will outline some thoughts about an embryonic Option B but he needs to have a clear idea about their issues and what the community wants.

“This is people’s last chance to have their say,” said a spokesman for the newly formed Pewsey-Devizes Task Group.  “We know we can’t have everything we want, but we are pretty confident that we will come up with a proposal that represents better value for the community.”

For more information or if you would like help with getting to Bouverie Hall please contact Philip Mackie on 01380 739630 or email admin@dcap.org.uk
