The reason many people drive is because the local buses are not a realistic alternative. At an Open Forum the bus group, Devizes Passengers, will be asking whether bus services in Devizes and the villages could change sufficiently to tempt motorists for some journeys.
Claire Perry MP has invited you to lobby her about any reduction to local rails services. “Please do pop along to Pewsey Station from 7.45am or Bedwyn Station from 5.30pm, on Friday 2 November to see me if you can.” The Devizes MP wants to hear why the through trains direct to London are so important to the area.
The Transport Group has written to Claire Perry and the Department for Transport objecting to the specification for the new Great Western Franchise. The Invitation to Tender (ITT) is difficult to interpret but reveals that the Government is not prepared to specify continuance of through services from Westbury and Pewsey once electrification on the Great Western Main Line to Bristol and Cardiff is completed in 2017.
