Right in the centre of Wiltshire, and a gateway to the famous Salisbury Plain, we hope you will agree that the villages of West Lavington and Littleton Panell are great places to be. Our parish is centred just six miles south of Devizes, nineteen miles north of Salisbury and with about 640 households is home to about 1280 people (as at 2001).
There is a busy shop in its centre and two pubs, as well as 15 bus stops along the length of the A360, connecting you to Devizes, Salisbury and Bath. We have a vineyard – a’Becketts, in Littleton Panell, and plenty of B&Bs to try too, but above all we have Salisbury Plain on our doorstep – it is bigger than the Isle of Wight and the largest area of chalk grassland in north-west Europe, containing 40% of the remaining area of this habitat in the UK.
In recognition of its importance about 20,000 hectares of grassland have been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area Conservation – oh, and the Army use some of it for training! But there’s room for everyone, so why not come to walk or cycle and see for yourself?
