The standards have been developed with a multi-professional group of clinicians, including nurses, consultants, pharmacists, podiatrists and dieticians as well as input from people with diabetes.

They have been tested and refined as part of the pilot phase and subject to public consultation prior to the full programme launch on 31 May 2023. The standards cover areas such as leadership, clinical metrics and audits, workforce, patient experience and safety.
