7 April 2025

April 2025

Huge congratulations to St Helens and Whiston, who are the first in-patient diabetes service in the UK to achieve level 1 accreditation with the Diabetes Care Accreditation Programme (DCAP).

“Working towards DCAP accreditation has brought our team together and given us a platform to help support improving the standards and quality of care that we deliver for our diabetes inpatients; our team were delighted to achieve level 1 accreditation and the recognition for their hard work. We found the DCAP team supportive and approachable with helpful feedback when needed. We look forward to working with them towards level 2 accreditation and further quality improvement within our service”.

By participating in DCAP accreditation, inpatient diabetes services are enrolled on an ongoing programme of service and quality improvement, focusing on seven key areas:

  • leadership and operational delivery
  • clinical effective
  • clinical processes
  • person-centred care
  • safety and risk
  • improvement and workforce

While achieving level 1 accreditation, the St Helens and Whiston team were congratulated on having an exceptional operational policy for their service.
